Why You May Find A Concrete Backyard Better When You Have Dogs

If you own dogs then you may initially think that having a nice grass yard for them would be the best and for some, it may be. However, other times it may actually be much easier and better on everyone if you turn your back yard into a concrete one for your dogs. Here are some great examples of why concrete may be better for you and for your dogs:

Cleaning up after your dogs is so much easier

When you have a grass yard it can be all too easy to accidentally step in your dog's poop because you don't see it. If you have kids that want to go out and play in the yard, then they can even end up covered in it if they accidentally roll into a pile. It's also harder to pick it up because you will have a hard time picking the piles up without accidentally leaving divots in the grass.

When you have a concrete backyard for your dog, you will see the piles right away. You won't have to worry about anyone accidentally stepping or rolling in them. Plus, you can easily pick them right up without fighting the grass and dirt. Once in a while, you can use a high-powered nozzle or power washer to remove all traces of your dog's pee and poop.

When your dog continuously pees in the dirt your yard will eventually start to smell, especially in certain types of weather, such as after it rains. With concrete, the bad smell will be rinsed away with the rain, or anytime you decide to get out there and hose it off.

You won't have to worry about fleas and ticks

When you let your dog outside to play in the grass, there is a chance that they will come back in with fleas and/or ticks on them. Turning your back yard into a concrete one will considerably cut down on your dog's chances of picking up fleas and ticks. This can help you to prevent big problems around your house since fleas and ticks can get out of control extremely quickly.

You can still offer your dog a grassy area

If you still like the idea of your dog having an area of grass to lay in, then you can leave a corner of the yard as a grassy place for them to lay in when they want something soft to sunbathe in.

Use Concrete as a Form of Art

Concrete doesn't have to be boring. In fact it can be absolutely beautiful. My name is Andrea Reese, and I am an artist as well as an avid gardener. I enjoy sculpting and decided to try to combine my two passions to create an incredible backyard oasis. The results are incredible. In this blog, I'll show you how I learned to make small sculptures and etchings in walkways to turn what used to be ordinary concrete into something amazing that adds tremendous artistic flair to the beauty of my garden. You can make visitors to your backyard think they've stepped into a fairy land. I can show you how.
